چکیده

Abstract: People with late-stage Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) who are assumed to have lost coherent cognitive capacity may exhibit unexpected episodes of spontaneous, meaningful, relevant communication or behavior. Most reports paradoxical lucidity “episodes lucidity” (EL) anecdotal case studies. Given the transient nature lack scientific explanation phenomenon, EL is under-investigated poorly understood. To develop an operational definition typologies for EL, we conducted a pilot study former current family caregivers from UsAgainstAlzheimer’s A-LIST® (N = 480). Over sixty percent (n 294, 61%) reported witnessing at least one their care recipient over course dementia. happened in late stages dementia (71%). Only 10% within 7 days before death. The majority (71%) lasted <30 minutes. About half were characterized by uncharacteristic speech communication. Caregivers perceived these experiences positively ( M 4.1; range 1–5), but also expressed desire know why/when occurs how respond it. We plan use data refine definitions incorporate into prospective, demographically diverse survey assess predictors linking caregiver well-being bereavement response. Precise robust operationalizations will allow future research if has different effects on ADRD prognosis alters members understand, manage adapt PLWD’s progression.

Terminal lucidity in patients with chronic schizophrenia and dementia: a survey of the literature.

In this article, we present the results of a literature survey on case reports of the unexpected return of mental clarity and memory shortly before death, which we have called "terminal lucidity." We focus specifically on terminal lucidity in mental disorders, of which we have found 81 case references. Of these, we were able to retrieve 49 case reports, most of which had been recorded before 18...

Computational Aspects of Lucidity-Driven Graph Clustering

We formally state and investigate the lucidity paradigm for graph clusterings. The rationale that substantiates this concept is the trade-off between the achieved quality and the expected quality of a graph clustering. A recently defined quality measure for graph clusterings, modularity, is one specific realization of this paradigm, in fact the pioneering one. On a theoretical side, we state a ...
